Sailing Vacations
By Mac Herrison
Sailing vacations are terrific getaways for both the novice and the experienced sailor. Think about all the open water in the world, and you'll realize how many places there are to sail. One beautiful and popular destination, is the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of Washington state and British Columbia. You can learn to sail among the breathtaking San Juan and Gulf Islands. From May to October you can learn in these waters for about $950. A certified instructor will teach you the fine points of sailing.

If you choose to sail in this region, you will be in the Pacific Northwest banana belt. People call it this because the climate is mild and the scenery is unmatched. The San Juan's and Gulf Islands offer an abundance of sheltered coves where you can anchor overnight. You won't be able to take your eyes of all the gorgeous scenery during the daytime.

During your course, you will also experience fun shore activities. You'll visit quaint villages, have a beer at a cozy inn, call at remote islands, or even have a glorious massage at a nearby spa. Be sure and watch for Orca whales. They call this area home and are so beautiful to watch as they leap and frolic. You can also spot otters, bald eagles, seals, porpoises, and a variety of sea birds.

A vacation in Washington and British Columbia will give you many pleasures, including excellent accommodations. Your ship will sleep four people in two double cabins. Your onboard chef will prepare scrumptious meals, or you can go ashore and dine in one of the area's many fine restaurants. One of these vacation packages is just right for the novice sailor who will

later be able to sail in far away ports of call with wilder waters.

For a vacation in more foreign waters a great location is the British Virgin Islands. This area is a great vacation for newly weds and for couples who want a romantic, yet adventurous trip, to make lasting memories. The weather of the British Virgin Islands is warm and sunny, and the clear Caribbean waters will soothe your skin as you take a swim off the side of your vessel. Have lunch on board the ship before napping in the sun off the side deck. You’ll have the vacation of a life-time when you board one of the many boats that can be found in the British Virgin Islands.
