These are the that you will remember for the rest of your life.
You drive down to San Felipe Mexico on Saturday and you either get a room at a local hotel or sleep on the boat for free which is docked until Sunday morning. Then on Sunday you get up with Mexico on your heart and mind and make your way into San Felipe and it takes you back to a time when life was more simple and the small things in life brought you pleasure. Taking in the sights and smells of Mexico is truly a wonderous thing and in the back of your mind you keep thinking, soon I will be catching tons of fish! You have breakfast and park your cars in Tony Reyes's yard then Tony shuttle busses you down to the dock where you begin your adventure.
The first day you travel on the mothership to get to the fishing grounds. Its a fun day of fellowshipping with the other anglers and meeting the crew. The next morning at day break you eat breakfast then head out three in a panga plus a pangero. These pangero's are so good at fishing its humbling to watch them in their element. You fish until lunch time then head back to the mothership to eat and take a ciesta. At about 2:00 you head back out and fish the afternoon and evening bite. You follow boils of bait fish and
diving sea gulls and rip the yellowtail right out of the water. It is such good and fun fishing that nothing even compares to it. Sometimes the bites are so hot that you are hoping that you don't get bit on this cast so you can catch your breath, just then a thirty five pound yellowtail swallows your Salas 6X jig and starts stripping line off your reel. You will also fish the local isolated islands and catch cabrilla which is a small bass that will bend your rod like a 40 pound open water fish, not kidding. Other fish include pargo, snapper, trigger fish, golden carbrilla, dorado, tuna on some trips, giant grouper, black sea bass, various rock fish and at night the humboldt squid weighing an average of 30 pounds and they are fun!
You make bait at night to fish the next day and jig fishing when bait is not availabe is very fun and exciting as well. You fish your way back up the Sea of Cortez towards San Felipe and on Friday night you arrive back at the dock and head home.
These are great family trips and they are perfect for younger kids. I highly recommend these Tony Reyes because they are still the best value on the market, and the fishing can be so wide open that you have to pinch yourself to make sure you aren't dreaming.
